Privacy Policy — AI Summarizer (Chrome Extension)

    1. Overview

    This Privacy Policy describes how the AI Summarizer browser extension ("the Extension"), published by Jackson Square Company, handles information. The short version: when you click the Extension icon, it reads the readable text of the page in your current tab and sends it to Google's Gemini API using your own API key to generate a summary. The developer collects nothing, operates no servers, and includes no analytics. This policy explains that in detail and applies only to the Extension, not to our website or any other products.

    2. Information We Collect

    We collect no information. The Extension's developer does not operate any servers, receive any network traffic, or store any user data. We do not create accounts, log usage, or maintain records of the pages you summarize.

    3. How the Extension Works

    When you click the AI Summarizer icon, the Extension reads the readable text of the page in your current tab and sends it to Google's Gemini API (generativelanguage.googleapis.com) along with your Gemini API key. Google returns a generated summary, which is displayed in the Extension popup. The Extension only reads a page when you explicitly click the icon; it never reads pages automatically or in the background.

    4. Data Sent to Google

    The following data is transmitted directly from your browser to Google's Gemini API:

    • The text content of the page you choose to summarize
    • Your Gemini API key, used by Google to authenticate the request

    This transmission goes directly from your browser to Google; the developer does not see, handle, or log it. Google's handling of this data is governed by Google's own terms and privacy policy for the Gemini API. Please note that Google may process free-tier API content in accordance with its terms. Since the developer does not operate servers, the primary security consideration is the direct browser-to-Google connection and the protection of your own API key and device.

    5. Data Stored on Your Device

    The following data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's storage API:

    • Your Gemini API key
    • Your selected model
    • Cached summaries (page URL plus summary text)

    This data never leaves your device except as described in Section 4. You can remove your API key from the Extension's settings, or uninstall the Extension, to delete all locally stored data.

    6. Permissions

    The Extension requests the minimum permissions needed to function:

    • activeTab — grants temporary access to the current tab only when you click the Extension, so it can read the page you are viewing.
    • scripting — allows the Extension to extract the readable text from the current page after you click it.
    • storage — allows the Extension to save your API key, selected model, and cached summaries locally on your device.

    The Extension does not read pages automatically or in the background, and it cannot access your bookmarks, browsing history, or clipboard beyond copy actions you explicitly trigger.

    7. Cookies, Analytics, and Advertising

    The Extension contains no cookies, no analytics or telemetry, no advertising, no tracking pixels, and no third-party code that receives user data on behalf of the developer.

    8. Third Parties

    The only third party that receives data from the Extension is Google, via its Gemini API, as described in Section 4. The developer does not share data with any other party. Your use of Google's Gemini API is governed by Google's terms and privacy policy, not this one.

    9. Children's Privacy

    This Extension is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone, including children under 13. No account or personal information is ever requested by the developer.

    10. Your Rights

    Under regulations such as the GDPR (EU/UK) and CCPA/CPRA (California), you have rights to access, correct, delete, and restrict processing of personal data. Because the Extension collects no personal data and the developer holds nothing about you, there is nothing held by us to access, correct, delete, or port. The only data the Extension stores sits on your own device under your control and is removed by uninstalling the Extension. If you have questions, contact us and we will respond.

    11. Changes to This Policy

    If a future version of the Extension changes how data is handled, we will update this policy, revise the date above, and describe the change here before that version is released.
