Privacy Policy — Social Scope (Chrome Extension)

    1. Overview

    This Privacy Policy describes how the Social Scope browser extension ("the Extension"), published by Jackson Square Company, handles information. Social Scope finds social media profile links on the webpage you are currently viewing. The short version: everything happens locally on your device, and no information is ever transmitted to us or to any third party. This policy explains that in detail and applies only to the Extension, not to our website or any other products.

    2. Information We Collect

    We collect no information. The Extension reads the content of the page you are viewing solely to find social media links, and that reading happens entirely on your device. Nothing is ever sent to our servers — we operate no servers for this Extension. Specifically, the Extension does NOT collect, transmit, sell, or share:

    • Personal information (name, email address, age, or identifiers)
    • Health, financial, or authentication information
    • Personal communications of any kind
    • Location data (IP address, GPS, or region)
    • Your web browsing history
    • User activity (clicks, keystrokes, mouse position, or usage patterns)
    • The content of the pages you visit — page content is scanned locally and never leaves your device
    • Any data sold to third parties or used for advertising

    3. How the Extension Works

    When you click the Extension's icon, a small script runs on the page you are viewing and scans it for links to social media profiles (such as Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, and TikTok). The matching, filtering, and deduplication of those links is performed entirely on your device. The results are shown in the popup, where you can open or copy them. The Extension makes no network requests of its own, contacts no external services, and works without any account or sign-in. It never scans pages in the background — it only runs when you open it, on the tab you are looking at.

    4. Data Stored on Your Device

    To make repeat visits faster, the Extension caches the profile links it found for a website, along with a timestamp, in Chrome's local extension storage on your device. This cache never leaves your device, is not synchronized to any account or cloud service, and is not accessible to us or to any website. Pressing "Rescan" replaces the cached results for that site, and uninstalling the Extension deletes the cache entirely.

    5. Permissions

    The Extension requests the minimum permissions needed to function:

    • activeTab — grants temporary access to the current tab only when you click the Extension, so it can scan the page you are viewing. It cannot read other tabs or pages you visit later.
    • scripting — allows the Extension to run its scanner on the current page after you click it.
    • storage — allows the Extension to save its cache of found links locally on your device, as described above.

    The Extension requests no host permissions, meaning it has no standing access to any website. It cannot read your bookmarks, browsing history, or clipboard beyond the copy action you explicitly trigger, which uses the browser's standard clipboard function and sends nothing to us.

    6. Cookies, Analytics, and Advertising

    The Extension contains no cookies, no analytics or telemetry, no advertising, no tracking pixels, and no third-party code that receives user data.

    7. Third Parties

    We share no data with third parties because no data is ever transmitted to us. The Extension embeds no third-party services. If you click a profile link found by the Extension, your browser navigates to that social media platform, and your interaction with it is governed by that platform's own privacy policy, not this one.

    8. Children's Privacy

    The Extension does not collect data from anyone, including children under 13. No account or personal information is ever requested.

    9. Your Rights

    Under regulations such as the GDPR (EU/UK) and CCPA/CPRA (California), you have rights to access, correct, delete, and restrict processing of personal data. Because the Extension transmits no personal data to us, we hold nothing about you to access, correct, delete, or port. The only data the Extension stores — its local cache of found links — sits on your own device under your control and is removed by uninstalling the Extension. If you believe otherwise or have questions, contact us and we will respond.

    10. Data Security

    Since no data leaves your device, the primary security consideration is the integrity of the Extension itself. We publish only through the official Chrome Web Store, which reviews and cryptographically signs each version.

    11. Changes to This Policy

    If a future version of the Extension changes how data is handled, we will update this policy, revise the date above, and describe the change here before that version is released.
